Once banks have been created and blueprints defined the next step would be to build a test/assessment. Adaptera supports the following assessment types:

  • Test: Instructional support (hints, explanations) must be manually configured during assignment setup.
  • Practice Test: Automatically displays hints and explanations if available.
  • Survey: Surveys include background questions (multiple choice or short answer). All of the responses are added as attributes to the user’s profile.

Creating a Test

Step 1: Click on Tests and click at the top. Choose from the type of tests shown: Test, Survey, Practice.

Step 2: On the Test Configuration page, enter the necessary details in the Test Info tab:

  • Name (required)
  • Directions:  enter instructions that test takers need to follow for the test. The text can be formatted using the custom tools available at the top of the editor.
  • Blueprint (optional): choose if the test is being designed to follow a specific pattern.
  • Default Report: Choose either Standard, Pathway, or Writing Report
  • Release Status: Choose 'Draft' If you would like to save the test to make changes later. Choosing the 'Published' status makes the test available for test takers.
  • Active/Inactive:

Step 3: Adding Items to the Test: Click on the Items tab:

  • Use the filters at the top (Bank, Item Type, Categories) to make a more specific search and click on 'Apply' to filter results or 'Refresh' to start over.
  • Available Items are displayed on the left:
    • To add items to the test, click on the + sign. Click on 'Move All' to add all the items to the test, shown under 'Selected Items' on the right.
    • To remove an item from the Selected Items list, click on 'x' . 'Reset' removes all items from the 'Selected Items" list.
    • To preview a selected item, click on the magnifying glass. Selected items can be reordered if needed by clicking and dragging the item up or down.
  • Preview Test: a simulated preview of what the test actually looks like. This is helpful to see the order in which the items are displayed, whether corresponding questions are too similar, etc.
  • Click Save to create the test.
