PSSA Argumentative Analysis

 

MY Access!  Persuasive/Argument

 

Focus and Purpose/Organization

  • Effective introduction, development, and conclusion identifying an opinion, topic, or controlling idea related to the text(s ). 
  • Strong organizational structure that effectively supports the focus and ideas.
  • Skillful use of transitions to link ideas.

 

Content Development/Elaboration

  •   Thorough analysis of explicit and implicit meanings from text(s) to effectively support claims, opinions, ideas and inferences
  •   Substantial, accurate, and direct reference to the text(s) using relevant key details , examples, quotes, facts, and/or definitions.
  • Substantial reference to the main idea(s) and relevant key details of the text(s) to support the writer’s purpose. 

 

Language, Use, Voice and Style

  • Effective use of precise language and domain-specific vocabulary drawn from the text(s) to explain the topic and/or to convey experiences/events.

 

Mechanics and Conventions

  • Few errors , if any, are present in sentence formation, grammar, usage, spelling , capitalization, and punctuation ; errors present do not interfere with meaning.

•        Establishes and maintains a precise claim to argue the issue presented in the task.

•        Very effectively demonstrates a cohesive and unified structure that supports the argument with an engaging introduction and a strong conclusion.

•        Uses effective and skillful paragraphing and transitional strategies throughout.

•        Very effectively develops arguments with logical reasoning and effectively integrates relevant, text-based evidence to support the writers claim.

•        Uses a variety of elaborative techniques.

•        Convincingly addresses opposing claims or counterarguments.

 

Language, Use, Voice, and Style

•        Demonstrates a very effectively style, precise control of language , domain-specific word choice , and a well- defined sense of audience .

•        Uses well-structured and varied sentences .

 

Mechanics and Conventions

•        Contains few or no errors in grammar, mechanics, punctuation and spelling.
